---- — KALKASKA — Ethel Mae (King) Jacobson McKee, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the KMHC Eden Center Memory Care Unit on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at the age of 101.
Ethel was born on March 11, 1912, in Garfield Township, the daughter of Tad Ernest and Fannie Mae (Coxon) King McCool. On Feb. 3, 1932, Ethel married Clarence A. Jacobson, and they lived on a farm in Garfield Township near many relatives and friends.
She enjoyed many years as a homemaker, raising their three children, gardening and working in her flowers. After Clarence “Jake” passed away on April 9, 1956, Ethel and her children moved to Kalkaska, and she worked at the Locker Plant and Gosling’s Food Market in Kalkaska and Burke Flexo Products in Traverse City.
Her days were always complete when she was able to spend time with her children and grandchildren and cook a delicious meal for them.
On Oct. 22, 1971, Ethel married Marshall McKee. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, William McCool; brothers, Elmer and Glenn King; and sister, Nela McCool.
Surviving Ethel are her children, Peggy (Don) Bellinger, Clarence (Hilda) Jacobson and Nancy (Ron) Johnson; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at the Kalkaska Funeral Home, 152 S. Cedar St., Kalkaska, with the Rev. Chad Hoover officiating. Interment will be in Garfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
