HARBOR SPRINGS — Marilyn Jean White, formerly of Harbor Springs and Traverse City, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, at home in Petoskey, due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Her husband and daughter were by her side. Marilyn was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Adrian.
She attended Adrian High School and Adrian College and was a member of Chi Psi Omega.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lois Hines; her sister, Maxine Blanchard; her son, Steven White; and her nephew, Jimmy Blanchard.
She is survived by her husband, Howard D. White Jr.; her daughter, Karen Pennington (Roger), of Alanson; her brother, Robert Hines (Louise), of Adrian; her daughter-in-law, Kim White, of Traverse City; her nephew, Bob Blanchard; her sisters-in-law, Louise White, of Traverse City, Kathleen Klingenmaier (Otto), of Warren, her nieces and nephews, Bill, Rob and Chris Hines, Lisa Nuechterlein, Kathy Landvay and Kristine Metz. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren, Natalie and Steven White, and Kelsey and Evan Rosinski.
Marilyn and Howard were married 56 years.
Marilyn worked at Linehan’s News Stand, Gow’s Little Acre and Hoover Flower Shop in Harbor Springs.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. All who knew her were touched by her quick wit and sparkling smile. Marilyn loved to laugh, and this was a trait she passed on to her children. She leaves behind many great friends and her cat, K.C., who did not leave her side during her illness.
A memorial service will be held at Stutsmanville Chapel in Harbor Springs on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.
