TRAVERSE CITY — Chester H. Durga Jr., 70, died Sept. 2, 2013, at home in Traverse City. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He had a great love of the Michigan outdoors taking time to enjoy hunting and fishing. Chet was a family orientated man, he was always the one lending his time and handiwork to anyone and everyone that needed help. He treasured the time spent with his grandkids spoiling them and often telling them “Don’t tell grandma.”
Chet also loved gathering with family and friends to play card games Slam or Euchre or taking a night to go the casino.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Teresa (Tim) Schramm; grandchildren, Timothy, Ashley, Shonda and Kaylin; great-grandchildren, Viola, Lilly Anna and Hope; brothers, Richard (Gloria), Wayne (Diane) and Jack (Carolyn); sisters, Wilma (Jim) Schaub, Darlene (Gerry) Fisher and Beverly Harris; sister-in-law, Sue Durga; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester H. and Daisy M. (Browning) Durga; brothers, Donald, Leonard and Gene Durga and sister, Lillian Rundquist.
A graveside service will held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at the Long Lake Township Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Frankfort & Benzonia.
