TRAVERSE CITY — Bob Shales passed away peacefully at home Aug. 21, 2013, in the company of his wife Kathryn (Hague) Shales and brother Michael Shales and dear friend Lori (Hefron) Sarya.
He will be remembered for his zest for life in all sports, but especially motor sports. From racing cars to snowmobiles, his long-time project boat, and his love of his motorcycle.
Other passions were whitewater kayaking to downhill bump skiing. He lived it all at full speed. His tag line for years was Easy Bob! We all tried to slow him down to no avail; he did things his way or no way.
He was a devoted husband for 23 years; uncle to four beautiful children, Jeannie Shales, Dustin Shales, Katie Shales, and Johnathon Shales; brother to William Shales and Michael Shales. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Shales; his brothers, William and Michael; mother-in-law MaryJane Hague; brother-in-law Robert (Dan) Hague; and cousins, Glenn (Hillary) and Johnathon Shales.
He was a mentor to many in the automotive world. He held many licenses including a Master Mechanics license and much more. A great part of his career was working with various automotive dealerships throughout the TC area. He was an asset to all. If he couldn’t figure it out, no one could.
A visitation and memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Twin lakes Lodge off North Long Lake Road. The service will start at approximately 6 p.m. with a casual gathering of friends and family prior to and after the service. Pastor Daniel Lecouteur, and John Sarya will be officiating the service. Food and beverage will be provided.
In lieu flowers please send donations to Hospice of Northern Michigan.
