Mitchell 'Mitch' Edward Stevenson Died Aug. 22, 2013

FRANKFORT — Mitchell “Mitch” Edward Stevenson of Frankfort, 50, died Aug. 22, 2013, at home.

Mitchell Stevenson was an intuitive, savvy businessman who had two main goals in life; providing for his family and forging trails through wild, untouched landscapes. Whether he was scouting a deer blind in his own backyard, fishing for brook trout on the Yellow Dog River in the U.P., or bear hunting and shrimping in Alaska, Mitch was most at home in the sun and the wilderness. An avid outdoorsman, Mitch brought the strength and courage needed in the woods into every aspect of his life. Upon being diagnosed with ALS in 2004, he did not fall into self-pity or hopelessness, but used his toughness, intelligence, intuitiveness and belief in hard work to press on and persevere.

Mitch began at a young age creating an abundant life for himself and his family in a place that he deeply loved. The door of his home was always open to friends and family. He was a mentor and role model to many. His handsome smile was contagious and his humor was unstoppable. To the very end of his life, Mitch insisted that everyone around him smile and have a “Positive Mental Attitude” just as he did. On one of the last mornings of his life, Mitch said, “Don’t cry. I don’t know what’s going to happen ... but today is a good day.”

Mitch was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beth; mother, Mona; father, William; and brother, Robert.

He is survived by daughters, Ashlee (Evan) and Brenna (Chad); son, Tyler (Emily); brothers, Jeff (Shelly) and Bill (Barb); sisters Kris (Dave) and JodiAnn (Tim); dear friend, Annie; and many nieces, nephews and loyal friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Rick Stieve officiating.

Contributions may be directed to the church or the ALS Assoc. of Traverse City.

Arrangements are by Jowett Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Frankfort & Benzonia;
