FRANKFORT — Agnes Elida Anderson Hardy, a lifelong resident of Frankfort died May 14, 2013 at Munson Hospice House. She was born on Feb. 8, 1916 the second of five daughters born to John Peter and Stina Lango Anderson, immigrants from Norway.
She graduated from Frankfort High School in 1933 and attended the Benzie County Normal and Ferris Institute. She taught in the Benzie County rural schools for several years. She was employed at various times at Classens Store, The Frontenac Restaurant and the Benzie County Patriot.
In 1938 she married George Dayton Hardy at Trinity Lutheran Church. He died in Oct. 1993 ending 55 years of a devoted marriage.
Agnes was strong in her faith as a Lutheran. She taught Sunday school for many years, was a former member of WELCA, the Miriam Circle and the Prayer Chain. She was the coordinator for the Dorcas Circle for 45 years, where members made quilts for Lutheran World Relief and was a member of the Library Committee. She attended church services as long as she was able.
She had held memberships in the Aux Bec Scies Club, the Sons of Norway, the Scandinavian Society and the Benzie Historical Society where she was a charter member. Agnes was a life member of the Order of Eastern Stars and had volunteered at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a dedicated home maker. Other interests were reading, observing nature, needlework, her garden and her Norwegian heritage, which is reflected in her home. She had compiled many photos albums of family members, their travels, friends, hobbies and church activities
Preceding her in death were her husband, two sisters, Aslaug and Alice; two daughters, Linda and Kristen.
Survivors are her son, David (Lorraine) Hardy and her daughter, Judith Wiley of Frankfort; grandchildren, Jeremiah Rumbaugh of Ohio, Darleen Wiley Diskete Rumbaugh of Ohio and Jesse Wiley of Ohio and stationed in Texas; great grandchildren, Emily Christine and Raymond James of Ohio; sister, Dora Johnson of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no service. Interment will take place at Crystal Lake Cemetery, East. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Frankfort.
