— INTERLOCHEN — Warren “Herk” Herkner, 63, of Interlochen, passed away on April 27, 2013. The son of Oswald and Etta Herkner, he was born on Sept. 29, 1949.
He was an active community member, beginning with the “Peninsula Boys” to the “Buckley Threshers Club”, known as the Old Engine Club. He was a true American Picker.
He actively helped start up two fire departments, the Metro #11, Garfield Township, and Inland Township, Station #9.
He is survived by his wife, Deb; son, Dennis (Kayla) Conklin; daughter, Jackiee Conklin; grandsons, Mavrick Conklin and Cody Conklin; and sisters, Lynda Herkner, Judy (William) Harmon, both of Traverse City, Sue (Kenneth) Keegstra, of LaValle, Wis., and Mary Jean (Ed) DeNeve, of Lincolnton, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Inland Township Fire Station #9, U.S. 31 South, Interlochen. The family will greet friends starting at 3 p.m.
