RD John Griffin

ALMIRA TWP. — RD John Griffin passed away with family by his side on Oct. 25, 2012, at Munson Hospice House. He was born the son of RV and Frances (Mills) Griffin on Dec. 3, 1954; he was the youngest of four children.

He was a lover of music and was a member of several bands over the years, playing everything from country and rock to folk and blues.

Nature was his true love. Since 2001 he spent the spring and summer months working for the Department of Natural Resources, a job that allowed him to bask in his love of the outdoors and meet new people. During the winter months he found solace in the warmth of the Florida Keys, a place where he thought the beauty immeasurable.

He was the father of two children, Jacob and Kristal, both of whom he loved without condition, and his granddaughter, Mercedes, added yet another sparkle to his eye.

An avid hunter and fisherman, John collected quite a few trophies over the years. He was probably happiest perched on a riverbank at his favorite "honey spot" with nothing but the sound of a breeze and a rippling river surrounding him, waiting for "The One."

He always had life in his eyes, a story to tell and a joke in his back pocket. He will be loved and missed dearly."

He is survived by his mother, Frances Bair, of Traverse City; sisters, Sandy (Dick) Amenson, of Interlochen, and Fran Griffin, of Thompsonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, RV; and brother, RG Griffin.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Thompsonville Congregational Church, with the Rev. William Hirschfeld officiating.

Contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or the First Congregational Church of Thompsonville.

Arrangements are by Jowett Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Service.
