TRAVERSE CITY — Alvin Richard "Dick" Cobb, 66, of Traverse City and Rotonda West, Fla., died Monday evening, Oct. 22, 2012, at Munson Medical Center, following a two-year bout with cancer. Dick displayed a "never give up" attitude until the Lord said that it's time for eternal rest. He was comforted by his loving and supportive family.
Born Aug. 15, 1946, in Traverse City, he was the only child of Alvin Seymour and Luella (Howard) Cobb. On Sept. 7, 1968, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe, he married the former Judith "Judi" A. Kane.
Dick attended and graduated from Traverse City High School with the class of 1964. He earned his associate's degree from Northwestern Michigan College and furthered his education by attending Eastern Michigan University, where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Prior to his recent retirement Dick worked as a building contractor and owned and operated Cobb Construction Company. He gladly donated his labor in designing and building the Sanctuary furnishings at St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he was a longtime member.
Dick was an avid golfer who held many golf league memberships. He enjoyed the thrill of mushroom hunting, adventures of scuba diving, the serenity of kayaking and the excitement of hunting and fishing. He captured his love of nature with his beautiful photography. He gifted many of his photos to family and friends, which now will be cherished for a lifetime.
Dick always had a spark in his eyes for his wife of 44 years, Judi, and his girls.
He is survived by his wife, Judi A. Cobb, of Traverse City; daughters, Renee (Franklyn Torres Santos) Cobb, of Arlington, Va., and Shelly (Jim) Kennedy, of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren, Finn and Loch Kennedy; along with three nephews and one niece. Dick is also survived by other family members, special friends and his beloved golden retriever, Lady.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Gregory McCallum will serve as the celebrant. Following cremation, inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery on Old Mission Peninsula.
