TRAVERSE CITY — Dorothy Joan Sleeper passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. She was born Dec. 19, 1938, in Traverse City, the daughter of the late Albert and Eunice Blonshine.
Dorothy, Joan to her friends, grew up in Traverse City. She worked at Sara Lee for over 25 years, raising four girls by herself. She was an incredible mother and friend, always a giver, never a taker.
Dorothy enjoyed going to yard sales, the casino, Sunday drives, hunting for morel mushrooms and “blackberrying,” but most of all, having bonfires in her backyard in the summer, drinking a cold beer and listening to old country music. Dorothy will be missed by many but never forgotten.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eunice Blonshine.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Sleeper, Carol Bowman, Sharon Sleeper and Virginia (Ralph) Chesebro; two sisters, Pauline (Edward) Galla, of Cedar, and Jarda Woodruff, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Casey, AJ. Tina, Michelle, Cody, Vikki and Nikki; as well as four great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held later this year.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to all the dedicated nurses and staff on A3 at Munson Medical Center.
Arrangements are with the Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
