TRAVERSE CITY — Edwin Daniel Larkin, of Traverse City, Port Richey, Fla., and Frankfort, went home to the Lord Jan. 15, 2014, at the age of 91.
He was born on March 28, 1922, in Flushing, Mich., the son of Roy and Myrtle (Moyer) Larkin.
Ed was a wonderful loving husband and father and good friend to many. He loved the Lord and his family dearly. He enjoyed flying, golf, wood carving and spending time with his family.
Ed enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 and served his country during World War II aboard the USS Phoenix light cruiser in the Pacific. After being honorably discharged he moved to Traverse City, where he met the love of his life Bonita (Bonnie) Wilhelm. They married on Sept. 7, 1947, and spent 61 wonderful years together until her passing in 2008.
Ed and Bonnie owned and operated the Lark-Inn Motel in Acme for many years. Ed founded and was President of the Larkin Agency in Traverse City until he retired in 1987.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Life Member and Past Master of Traverse City Masonic Lodge #222, member of the Scottish Rite, the Shrine Saladin Temple and Past President of the Traverse City Shrine Club.
In 1964, Ed received his private pilot license and he would often fly children to the Shriners Hospital in Chicago. Ed was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City until he began residing in Florida year round.
Ed was a very kind and compassionate man, with a quick wit and great sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Brent (Michelle) Larkin; daughters, Jan (Don) Kiessel and April Cox; sister, Amy Riehl; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; sister, Ivah Loop; and brothers, Dwaine and Roy Jr.
