COPEMISH — Ronald J. Doberstein Sr., 77, of Copemish, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 9, 1936, in Copemish, the son of Arthur and Genevieve (Irwin) Doberstein.
Ron was a truck driver for over 50 years until his retirement in 2010. He drove for Howes and Howes Trucking, Smeltzer’s Orchards and Century Boats. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed driving trucks and racing cars, and was awarded “rookie of the year” for his driving in 2012. He also enjoyed going to auctions and collecting diecast cars, Smurfs and just about everything else.
Ron is survived by his children, Ronald J. Doberstein Jr. of Interlochen, RoseMarie (Gary) Alderman of Interlochen, Charles (Connie) Doberstein of Copemish, Dorothy (Jeff Elmer) Campeau of Traverse City, Rebecca (Michael) Washnieski of Virginia Beach, Va., Billy (Mandy) Gardner of Copemish, Jackson (Cherry) Yoder of Kaleva, Jamas Yoder of Buckley, and Scott (Tina) Williams of Copemish; his “nanny”, John Card; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Louise Dempsey of Steger, Ill., Sandy Stevens of Oklahoma, and Phyllis (Walter) Rohn of Frankfort; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Doberstein in 2011; and three brothers, Arthur, Charles and Daryl Doberstein.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home, in Kaleva.
