TRAVERSE CITY — Pauline died in her sleep at the Pavilions nursing home after celebrating her 94th birthday on Dec. 9, 2013. She had slowly declined in health over the last few years.
Pauline was the firstborn of the Korneman family in Kingston, Mo. She graduated from Kingston High School. She then moved to Kansas City and went to a business school and learned secretarial skills. She met her future husband, Joe, in Kansas City and married him in 1943.
Pauline was a skilled secretary and enjoyed working for Cherry Growers when they were located on Front Street and later the First National Bank. She was a Master bridge player and could hold her own right up until the time of her death. She was a regular duplicate player at the Monday and Thursday games at the Traverse City Senior Center. She was also a member of the Elks organization in Traverse City and often played weekly games of bridge there.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Rosemary) LaLonde of Glencoe, Ill., and Paul (Julie) LaLonde of Grawn; two sisters, Donna McCorkendale and Ruth Crawford of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Matthew (Katy) and Peter (Megan); and six great-grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Robert; her sisters, Mary Jones, Kathleen Thompson and Genevieve Campbell; and her grandson, David LaLonde.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral home with the memorial service immediately following at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions in Pauline’s name may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation or the Traverse City Senior Center.
