Eva M. Tatar

Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — BINGHAM TOWNSHIP — Eva May Tatar, 89, passed away on April 23, 2013, at Tendercare of Leelanau. Eva was born in Detroit on May 2, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Molnar) Veresh.

In 1947 Eva married the love of her life, Julius (aka Spud), and for the next 65 years with four kids in tow, their journey began.

A deep belief in God and religion led her to the Presbyterian Church and God’s lessons were taught to her kids through church camps, choir rehearsals and fellowship.

Friends and family were near and dear to her heart as many parties and family gatherings imparted to her young the value of lifelong friends and the need of one’s family.

A love of travel led Spud and Eva to purchase an RV, and the travel and adventures of this great nation ensued. A tragic accident happened when Spud fell off a roof. Eva cared for Spud into her 80s and said many times how blessed she was to have the love of this man, as were we to have her share in her love and life.

In addition to her husband, Eva is survived by her four children, Timothy (Sandy) Tatar, of Ida, Thomas (Diane) Tatar, of Lake Ann, Kenneth Tatar, of Macomb, and Grace (William) Pickowitz, of Battle Creek; a brother, Louie; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Scott; a sister, Mary; and brothers, Joseph, William and Steve.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 3 p.m., at Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. The Rev. Becky A. Chamberlain will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Leelanau County Senior Services, 8527 E. Government Center Drive, Ste. 106, Suttons Bay, MI 49682.

Please share thoughts and memories with Eva’s family on their online guestbook at www.record-eagle.com/obituaries/.

Arrangments are with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
