Lewis Clarence Moulton

EL CAJON, Calif. — Lewis Clarence Moulton was born in Hartford, Conn., June 6, 1925, and was raised in Connecticut and Vermont. After graduating from Simsbury High School in 1943, he served in World War II in the Army Air Force. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1950.

Lew Moulton worked in the insurance industry where his career spanned 35 years of office management and sales for national companies on the East, West, and Gulf Coasts. In 1990, he retired and moved to San Diego, Calif.

Throughout his career and retirement, Lew assumed numerous civic, social, and church related volunteer responsibilities. In Louisiana, he served as Chairman of the Board for the Louisiana Foundation for Independent Colleges, was founder and first president of the Insurance School of Louisiana, and was Chairman of the Board for “F.A.I.R.”, Fair Access to Insurance Requirements.

In San Diego, Lew’s volunteer work included being a docent at the 1992 America’s Cup Challenge Museum, the Stephen Birch Aquarium & Museum, and The Salk Institute.

Moulton is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Neild Moulton in San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Mildred Moulton Kammritz of Meriden, Conn.; five children, Jonathan Moulton (Judy) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeffrey Moulton (Sharon) of Littleton, Colo., Anne Moulton Giovingo (Michael) and Virginia Moulton of New Orleans, La., and Claiborne Moulton (Shannon) of Sarasota, Fla.; plus 11 grandchildren.

Lew Moulton, a summer resident of Leland, passed away in San Diego, Calif., on March 26, 2013. He lived his life to the fullest and always said he was “shot in the a** with luck.”

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. that same day at Beechwood Cemetery, Leland.

The family requests any memorial gifts go to organizations of the donors’ preference.
