---- — FRANKFORT — Erval “Mike” Bradley, 76, of Frankfort, Mich. passed away in a peaceful state after a brief illness.
Born in Antrim County, Mich., he was the youngest son to the late Ethel (Bayes) and John Bradley. He was preceded in death by his eight brothers and sisters and infant son Michael Bradley. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Rose Ann (Stubbs) Bradley and their children; Kathy and daughter Katy Wilkins; Steve and son Hunter and daughters Hailey and Madison; Scott and his wife Nancy and daughter Grace and sons Kevin and Benjamin; Tammy and her fiancée Steve Martin and her son Jared Ikens; and former sons-in-law Dave Wilkins and Frank Ikens, and former daughter-in-law Angie Duvall.
Mike moved to Frankfort to work in the local bakery in 1957, met Rose and together they were fixtures on Main Street at Mike’s Pastry Shop in downtown Frankfort for the next 40 years. When Lake Michigan sport fishing began in 1967, Mike was “hooked.” He received his charter captain’s license in 1969 and was seen trolling the Frankfort waters every year since on the legendary Sea Joy. In 1986, he expanded his boating interest and built East Shore Marina, where fish stories grew and his “family” expanded.
Mike enjoyed a good road hunt or just driving around looking for deer. He looked forward to playing pool on Monday nights, watching sports, especially his kids and now grandkids, but he especially enjoyed being with his extended family at East Shore Marina.
A fisherman, hunter, businessman, sports fan - to some he was the “Senior Captain”, to others he was the donut maker or card shark. His friends will remember him as an easy going guy that would never say no. He was quick to offer help and generous in his support. He lived by his own moral compass, so it was only fitting that he spent his life with his personal “compass Rose”. He was never one to take life too seriously. Quick with a joke and honest in everything, he touched the lives of many and was a friend to all. He will be missed.
Friends are invited to calling hours from 2 to 8 p.m., April 14, 2013, at the Jowett Funeral Home in Benzonia Mich. A service will honor Mike’s life at 11 a.m. on April 15, 2013 at the Trinity Lutheran Church. There will also be a memorial service held this summer. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lockhart Field Renovation, c/o City of Frankfort. Arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Homes.
