Randy Lee Zimmer

PORT HURON — Randy Lee Zimmer, 61, of Port Huron, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, in his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born Oct. 16, 1951, in Port Huron, to Ross and Lorraine Zimmer.

Randy graduated from Port Huron Catholic School in 1969. He received his Bachelor of Pharmacy in 1975 from Ferris State University and Master of Hospital Administration in 1986 from Central Michigan University.

He held various positions as a retail pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, but settled as a consultant pharmacist in Traverse City for 16 years. He was a member of the Michigan Pharmacist Association and received the honor of the Michigan Consultant Pharmacist of the Year in 2006.

He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and dog, Beau. He was an avid hunter, downhill skier, scuba diver, world traveler, fisherman, body builder, cyclist, softball player, participated in the iceman bike race and loved water sports.

He is survived by four daughters, Courtney (Mike) Farr, of St. Clair Shores, Tara (Steve) McGregor, of Ft. Gratiot, Natalie and Alecia Zimmer, both of Traverse City; six grandchildren, Steeleigh, Braiden and Jersey McGregor and Hadley, Bode and Greyson Farr; his parents, Ross and Lorraine Zimmer, of Port Huron; his siblings, Vicki Courtney, of St. Clair, and Charles (Judy) Zimmer and Nicki Zimmer, all of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews; dear friend, Lisa London; and the two loves of his life, his former wives, Sherry Guilds Mitchell and Phyllis Hall Zimmer.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David Courtney.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron, with visitation starting at 3 p.m. Pastor Joseph DeHass will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Brain Tumor Fund, Neuro Oncology Program at U of M or Blue Water Area Humane Society.
