---- — WILLIAMSBURG — Charles “Chuck” Heffer, 89, of Williamsburg, died Monday , May 27, 2013.

Chuck was born in Rochester, N.Y., to Richmond and Margaret (Friener) Heffer on Jan. 9, 1924. He married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Ruden on Aug. 12, 1950, in Rochester, N.Y.

Chuck honorably served in the United States Army Infantry 80th Division in World War II.

He was a 1948 graduate of the University of Rochester with a chemical engineering degree.

He was a retired engineer, having been employed with Michigan Abrasive and the Coated Abrasive Division of the 3M company.

Chuck was an intelligent, sensitive person with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. He was an avid Eagle Scout and a lifelong learner who took a keen interest in history, civic issues and current events. Chuck was a dedicated fly fisherman and nature lover as well as a good listener and friend.

His presence will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Chuck was a member of Trout Unlimited, Kalkaska Garden Club, part of the local Civil War Group, a board member of the Music House, a volunteer with Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Chapter and member of Detroit Theatre Organ Society and the American Theatre Society. He attended both Christ the King and St. Mary’s of the Woods Catholic Churches.

Chuck had no children but is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth Heffer; a brother; and a sister, Marion.

Per Chuck’s request, there will be no memorial service.
