TRAVERSE CITY — Donald Thompson, 80, of Traverse City, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 1, 2014. He was born on Oct. 21, 1933, in Frankfort, to Floyd Thompson and Catherine (Fortine) Berryhill.
Don graduated from Frankfort High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force. He served in Korea and Vietnam, and after 20 years of dedicated service retired as an Air Force Recruiter.
Don was a member of the Traverse City Elks Club and VFW. He had a special interest in town politics.
In his free time he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, helping others and spending time with his family.
Don is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Priscilla (Walkley) Thompson; children, Donald (Lorrie) Thompson and Theresa (Gary) Wilson; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Greg) Smith, Emily and Jameson Thompson and Ashley, Mark, Erin and Chad Wilson; great-grandchildren, Ella and Kyla Wilson; several nieces, nephews and siblings; and beloved granddog, Charlie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Beverly McCoy and Sandra Black.
Don’s family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Riddle, D.O., and the wonderful staff at Munson Hospice for their kindness and care.
A funeral service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice.
