SUTTONS BAY — Donald Joseph Chippewa, 59, of Suttons Bay, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 at Munson Medical Center.
Don was born on April 4, 1953 in Newberry the son of John and Alberta (Aslin) Chippewa.
As a young man Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
Don loved hunting and fishing. During the mid 1970's, he started fishing with Art Duhamel and by the early 80's he was captain of his own fishing boat for the Grand Traverse Band. Don had a great sense of humor and enjoyed going to the casino with his wife, Rose, and spending time with his large and loving extended family, especially his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife and partner of 19 years, Rose (Weese) Chippewa; daughters, Kimberly and Autumn; step-daughters, Yvette Weese and Christa Gasca; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary (George) Yannott, Violet Roxbury, Daniel Engman, and Larry Engman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Frank, J.R., Fran Smith, Gail Ralstone, and Timothy Chippewa.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
