TRAVERSE CITY — Ethel M. Benzenberg, 88, passed peacefully Nov. 26, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior and into the loving arms of her husband, Jack.
Ethel was born Oct. 19, 1925, in Cross Village, to the late George Joseph Leo and Violet Leo Arp. Ethel married Jack Benzenberg on Oct. 17, 1946, in Saginaw. Jack preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1990.
Ethel and Jack moved to Traverse City in the late 1950s to raise their three daughters. Together they owned and operated the City Center Motel.
Ethel was a proud member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Her life was solely devoted to her family; daughters, Lonna (Bob) Israel, Sandy (Dennie) Merrifield and Jackie (Art) Cole. Also surviving are her brother, George (Karen) Leo; and six grandchildren, Joseph (Shannon) Stickney, Derek (Jana) Morton, Nikki (Chris) Millward, Natalee (Knute) Zehner, Adam (Inger) Cole and Ashly (Jared) Howton. Ethel’s eight great-grandchildren will miss her dearly, Samantha, Marina, Lily, Gaby, Jack, Noah, Isaiah and Finley.
Ethel was a beautiful, elegant, classy, kind-spirited lady. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of calling her a friend.
In accordance with Ethel’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside family service will be celebrated at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may consider a donation to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
