---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Paul E. Neumann, of Traverse City and Beaver Island, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2013, a few weeks shy of his 91st birthday. Paul grew up in Royal Oak and spent much of his life in Grand Rapids. He was respected and beloved by all who knew him.

Paul is survived by his wife, Florence; by his three children, Paul Neumann Jr. (Nancy Palmer/Kehoe Neumann), of Wallace, Janet Neumann/Foster Eshenroder (Randy Eshenroder), of Ann Arbor, and Marilynn Neumann Pecott (James Pecott), of Traverse City; by 10 grandchildren, Anne Neumann Dextre (Franco Dextre), of New York, N.Y., Sarah Neumann Mammel (Fred Mammel), of Petoskey, Jill Kehoe Badker (Thad Badker), of Menominee, Scott Kehoe (Tina Doyen Kehoe), of Brownstown, Lt. Aron Foster, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lt. Ryan Foster, of Omaha, Neb., 1st Lt. Nathan Foster (Allison Frank Foster), of Lacey, Wash., Justin Pecott, of Seattle, Wash., Audrey Pecott Martin (Alex Martin), of Philadelphia, Pa., and Ross Pecott, of Seattle, Wash.; and by nine great-grandchildren.

Paul was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Air Force combat pilot. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals and a Presidential Citation. A reserve officer, he was recalled to the USAF during the Korean War, when he served as an Air Defense Command Staff Officer.

In civilian life he was a graduate of the University of Michigan and had a career of over 50 years as a life insurance agent in Grand Rapids. During that time he served as president of all of the following organizations: Grand Rapids Life Underwriters Assoc., West Michigan Chapter of CLUs, Michigan Life Insurance Counselors Assoc. and Kentwood Rotary Club. He was also a Rotary International Governor of District 629. He served as a director of both Grand Rapids Mutual Savings & Loan and Metro Bank. Later he was an advisory director of Comerica Bank. He served as supervisor of Cascade Township in the 1970s and Senior Warden of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Cascade. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, York Lodge (F&A Masons), Saladin Shrine, Dewitt-Clinton Conservatory and the VFW Post 2964.

Viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Marlette Cemetery Chapel, Marlette. Burial service with full military honors will begin at 1 p.m. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at the St. James Episcopal Church on Beaver Island.
