COLDSPRINGS TOWNSHIP — John Ely Hodges, 81, of Coldsprings Twp., passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. John was born on Jan. 14, 1932, in Detroit.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.
John married Mary (Frederick) in 1955, and they have enjoyed 58 years of marriage together.
He retired from the Detroit Police Department after 31 years of dedicated service.
John loved being with and was very proud of his family and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Mary; children, John (Cathy) Hodges, Kathy (Brian) Conroy and David (Michelle) Hodges; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; siblings, Joseph (Ann) Hodges and Helen (Bill) O’Brien; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judi; son, James; and siblings, Catherine Kayl and Barbara Scanlon.
A memorial Mass will be held at noon on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 N. Haggerty Road, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, Kalkaska, or to the Capuchins Soup Kitchen, Detroit.
