---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Helen Leona Adler, 94, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2013, at Munson Medical Center surrounded by her family. Helen was born on June 22, 1919.
She met her husband, Harold Milton Adler on a blind date in Detroit. She married him on July 8, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas. Together they raised a wonderful daughter, Lee.
Helen went to Albion College and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She earned her degree in teaching.
She taught elementary school for over 40 years in the Detroit area and the Elk Rapids School District.
Helen enjoyed fishing and traveling. She especially enjoyed her trips to Beijing, China, Europe, Mexico and around the United States.
Helen will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, artist and oil painter. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Helen are her husband of 68 years, Harold; daughter, Lee (Jay) Pyper; and granddaughter, Holly Pyper.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Betty Ball Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
