DURAND — Gerald “Jerry” Frank Rice, 76, of Durand, formerly of Beulah, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint. He was born May 6, 1937, in Flushing, the son of William and Ruth (Johnson) Rice.
Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country honorably.
He went to work for the NSA before moving back to Frankfort. He then moved to the Flint area to work for General Motors. He worked for GM for 30 years before retiring in 1994.
Following his retirement Jerry moved back to Frankfort before moving to Beulah in 2000.
Jerry was a member of Homestead Community Church.
In his spare time, he loved to garden. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
On July 9, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Flushing, Jerry married Marilyn Joyce Newberry, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, Charles (Linda) of Byron; his grandchildren, Isaac, Benjamin, Heidi, Lillianna and Samuel; his brothers, James (Norma) Rice, of Frankfort, Ray (Phyllis), of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Rice; and his sisters, Mary Lamkin and Vivian Rommel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Homestead Community Church in Beulah, with Pastor James Allred officiating. Interment will follow in Conway Cemetery in Arcadia. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 22, 2013, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
