TRAVERSE CITY — David Michael Vermetten, 82, of Traverse City, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
David was born on Tuesday, March 17, 1931, in Toronto, Canada. He married Ruth Eugenia Morris, who preceded him in death.
He honorably served our country as a member of the United States Army as a journalist.
David was a graduate of the University of Michigan and was a professor of English at Northwestern Michigan College and the head of the English department until his retirement.
David loved painting, photography, drawing and camping. He was an avid reader and writer.
David is survived by his children, Matthew (Susan) Vermetten and their children, Kristen, Meagan and William Vermetten; Lisa (Paul) Wiley and their children, Lydia, Laura, Lillian and Claire Wiley; and Leslie (Jeff) Summers and their children, Jeffery Jr., Joseph and Jacob Summers.
In addition to his wife and parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence.
A visitation has been planned to celebrate David’s life on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
