Gary William Cox

GRAWN — Gary William Cox, 60, of Grawn, died Sunday evening, June 20, 2010, at his home surrounded by members of his loving family.

Born May 8, 1950, in Traverse City, he was the son of the late William Washington and Jean Marie (Maginity) Cox. On March 19, 1982, in Traverse City, he married the former Linda Sue Forney.

A proud veteran, Gary served his county with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

As a gifted and talented carpenter and a "Jack of all Trades", Gary was the proud owner of his own construction company, GLC Construction Company, retiring in 2007. He was a hard worker and approached many difficult situations in life with a sense of humor.

He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Lake Ann and a longtime member of the VFW Cherryland Post #2780.

As his interests he enjoyed bowling, golfing, coaching Little League and wintering in Zephyr Hills, Fla.

He will be fondly remembered for his ability to encourage, his unconditional love, his unfailing faith and his great sense of humor.

Gary is survived by his loving and supportive family; wife, Linda Sue "Lynn" Cox of Grawn; children, Peggy Spillman of Baton Rouge, La., Trisha (Thomas) Marek of Interlochen, Todd (Kimberly) Cox of Kingsley, Wendi Cox of Grawn and Briget (Dale) Blake of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Merlin.

Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, June 24, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m., where the Cox family will receive friends. Memorial services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Justin Grimm and his brother-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Louis Forney officiating. Cremation has taken place. Graveside services with full Military Honors under the auspices of the VFW Cherryland Post #2780, will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010, at 2:30 p.m., at Grawn Maple Grove Cemetery.

In remembrance of Gary, memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice or to Advent Lutheran Church. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home or church.
