Bernice Gayle (Curtis) Waclawski Died Aug. 25, 2013

TRAVERSE CITY — Bernice Gayle (Curtis) Waclawski, 90, of Traverse City, went home to her Lord on Aug. 25, 2013. She was born on Sept. 14, 1922, in Elk Rapids, to William and Laura (Wheeler) Curtis.

Bernice graduated from Traverse City High School in 1939 and later became a chair side dental assistant. She worked for the offices of Dr. Carl Maddion, Dr. John Hayes and Dr. Kerry Kaysserian. After 40 years of dedicated work Bernice retired.

She was a very giving woman with a kind spirit. She volunteered at the Women’s Resource Center in Traverse City.

In her free time she enjoyed listening to big band music, dancing, going for walks, picking flowers, garage sales and triple pepperoni pizza with no cheese. Bernice had a passion for collecting. Her kitchen was wildly decorated with owls, chickens, cows and elephants. She also had an extensive collection of red-haired dolls.

Bernice loved to make people smile and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We know she is happy in heaven.

Bernice is survived by her husband of 39 years, Fred J. Waclawski; children, Dale (Marti) Irish, Julie Forcier-Quinn, Curtis (Janis) Forcier and Theodore E. (Mary) Forcier; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, A.O. Irish; and second husband, Theodore S. Forcier.

We are truly indebted to the staff of the Grand Traverse Pavilions who compassionately cared for our mother and wife for the last 10 years.

Bernice was a very private person in life and in death. It was her wish to be cremated. A private family gathering in her memory will be held at later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to A.C. Paw or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
