---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Elizabeth B. Schwind, age 88, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born in Traverse City on July 5, 1925, to Perry and Elizabeth (Courtade) Baynton.
Betty graduated from Traverse City High School in 1943.
On Sept. 4, 1943, Betty married the late Ferdinand William Schwind. Together they raised seven children.
Betty worked as a housekeeper for the Interlochen Arts Academy and then the Grand Traverse Country Club until she retired at the age of 80.
She enjoyed fishing, puzzles, gardening, cake decorating and cross country skiing. There was nothing Betty enjoyed more than family get-togethers.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Linda (Art) Gauthier, Nancy (Jim) Strang, Jim (Vonnie) Schwind and Jerry (Cheryl) Schwind, all of Traverse City; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; son-in-law, John Gauthier; and daughter-in-law, Pat Schwind.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Beverly Shoffner and Karen Gauthier; son, Bill Schwind; a granddaughter, Cindy Gauthier; and siblings, Ron, Alfred, Louie Baynton and Marcella Crouch.
A visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m., at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery in Traverse City.
Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be directed to the Salvation Army or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
