GRAWN — Emil Ergang, 88, of Grawn, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013. Emil was born to Emil and Mae Bell (Sturgis) Ergang Sr. on June 23, 1925, in Grand Rapids.
Emil was a veteran of our U.S. military, where he served as paratrooper in the Philippine Islands, Korea and Japan.
He married his first and only love, Dorothy Black, on July 12, 1945.
After his time in the service Emil worked as both an auto body repairman and owner of a shop for a number of years in Grand Rapids.
Emil enjoyed vacationing in Canada, where he fished like a pro on the big lake, Matinenda. After he retired, Emil spent his summers at his cottage in Lake Matinenda, Ontario, Canada.
He was loved by all of his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sister, Rosemary Ergang and brother, Roger (Vera) Ergang, both of Grand Rapids; son, Dale (Verina) Ergang, of Traverse City; daughter, Shirley (Lanny) Lumbert, of Grant; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Harold and Lyle; and sister, Martha.
Visitation will be held at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley on Thursday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Kingsley Baptist Church on Friday, Aug. 30, at noon, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Emil’s final resting place will be at Downs’s Cemetery in Mayfield, where his parents are buried.
