TRAVERSE CITY — Gordon L. Huey, 67, of Traverse City died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at the Spectrum Health, Meijer Heart Center.
He was born on June 2, 1946 in Traverse City the son of Homer Rudy and Frances Leone (Dunmore) Huey.
Gordon retired as a wire drawer from Alco Tec in June 2011 after 17 years.
He previously worked with Jantec and TC Ironworks.
He was a decorated Vietnam veteran serving in the Medical Corps and received several medals.
Gordon was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed woodworking with his best friend and brother, Mike Huey. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding his wildlife, watching football, NASCAR and CNBC. After his father died he dedicated himself to his mother by moving her in to his home. Once she moved into the Grand Traverse Pavilions he continued to see her every Sunday.
Gordon is survived by his children, Laurie (Chad) Radtke, Gordon (Christy) Huey, Michael (Michelle) Huey and Daniel (Ardy) Huey; grandchildren, Leah, Lexi, Cameron, Gordon Lee, Dylan, Rebecca, David and Jacob; great-granddaughter, Lilea; his mother, Frances L. Huey and siblings, Barbara (Donald) Gurn, and Michael (Sharon) Huey.
He is preceded in death by his father, Homer Huey and brother, Harold R. Huey.
Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
The family will greet friends starting at 9 a.m. Military Honors will be provided by the Active Duty Army Honor Guard and VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
