---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Anthony Michael “Mike” Lazarus, 50, of Traverse City, passed away May 14, 2013, at Munson Medical Center. Mike was born June 15, 1962, in West Palm Beach, Fla., the son of Stanley and Joyce (Coffman) Lazarus.
Mike attended Mackinaw City High School and also spent time in Florida while he was growing up. He had a special appreciation for the beauty of the Straits of Mackinac where he spent summers at his grandparents’ stone house on Lake Michigan. For nearly 20 years he owned and operated a local business in Traverse City, Mike’s Custom Coatings and Home Improvement. He was known as “Big Mike” by many, more for the size of his heart than his stature alone. His kindness, unconditional giving, and courage will remain an inspiration to those he leaves behind.
Mike is survived by two sisters, Karen Parker and Jeannine Driscoll; sister-in-law, Pam Bonter; nieces, Julie Langley, Jennie Riggs, Lesley Klein, Nikki Bonter and Freya Bradford; and countless others who were proud to call him brother, uncle or friend.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and a brother, Mark Bonter.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Kingdom Hall, 1950 Chase Rd., Traverse City. All are welcome.
In remembrance of Mike, memorial contributions may be directed to Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1950 Chase Rd., Traverse City, MI 49685, or Cherryland Humane Society, 1750 Ahlberg Rd., Traverse City, MI 49686.
