ELBERTA — Edward L. Ward, of Elberta, 92, died April 15, 2013 at home. Born in Elberta, on May 24, 1920, he was the son of Edward and Rose Ward. Ed married Barbara Ann Esch on Oct. 5, 1958 and together they have two children, Lori and Ed.
Ed enjoyed taking long drives on back roads looking for wildlife. He was an avid fisherman and liked to hunt and trap. He was a member the Sea Farers International Union, Masonic Lodge No. 270 and Arcadia VFW Post No. 3314. Ed retired from the Ann Arbor Car Ferries in 1985.
Ed is survived by wife, Barbara; daughter, Lori (Rick) Bassett of Benzonia and son, Ed (Susan) Ward, Jr. of San Francisco; grandchildren, Jennifer Gilmer of Greenville, Mich., Brittany Lynn Bassett of Benzonia, Andy Bassett of Benzonia, and Brittany Ward of San Francisco; and faithful companion, Stella his dog. He is also survived by sisters, Iris (Bob) Roper of Benzonia and Betty Johnson of Frankfort; brother, Charles Ward of Frankfort; sister-in-law, Vivian Ward of Elberta; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Meda Ramirez and brothers, Douglas and Clarence Ward.
A private graveside service will be held this spring at Gilmore Township Cemetery.
