Opal Lorraine Bogart

GLADWIN — Opal Lorraine (Stadlberger) Bogart, 89, of Gladwin, passed away at Mid Michigan Gladwin Pines on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. She was born in Newak, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Hendrich) Stadlberger.

She married Glenn J. Bogart on Aug. 30, 1941. He predeceased her in 2005.

Opal was a homemaker, living in Gladwin County most of her life, and she was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed golf with her friends, Betty Edick, Jean Gary, Joan Valentine and Donna Leosch. Opal and Glenn both enjoyed hunting and fishing, which she continued into her early 80s. She also enjoyed crafts, embroidery, croquet, and was always willing to attempt new things.

Opal moved from the Gladwin area when Glenn retired in 1975, and she and Glenn ventured into business opening the Garden Bay Bait & Tackle Store on the Big Bay de Noc Channel in Garden. She had many stories of the mishaps and funny situations that she and Glenn would encounter and repeat to their friends and family when they moved back to this area in 2002.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Jim) Nelson, of Traverse City, Fay (Tom) McKenna, of Beaverton, and Susan (Jack) Kirby, of Sperryville, Va.; grandchildren, Kimberly (Dennis) Blaskowski, Denise (Mark) McGrath, Brian (Cara) Heffner, Marty (Kate) Zelt, Jamie (Susan) Zelt, Charity Hegy, Victor (Elizabeth) Kirby and Monica (Justin) Shumaker; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher, Elyse, Erica, Quinn, Libby, Hannah, Shealynn, Harvey, Mallory, Aiden, Jacob, Mason, Haley and Baby Shumaker; and great-great-grandchildren, Lilia, Maya and Wesley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn on June 3, 2005.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor James Krach on Friday, May 3, 2013, 10 a.m., at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin. The family will receive friends today, May 2, 2013, from 1 to 9 p.m., with an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery, Gladwin.
