---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Phyllis Marie Bishop, 83, of Traverse City, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2013, at Munson Medical Center, comforted by her children.

Born Feb. 7, 1930, at home in Sherman, she was one of three children born to the late James Leroy “Roy” and Maude (Clark) Coger. On Nov. 12, 1949, she married the love of her life, Chester E. Bishop Jr., who died on Nov. 7, 2009.

Phyllis was a long time member of Fellowship Church, where she enjoyed interacting with others and participating in various activities.

Prior to her retirement in 1995, Phyllis was employed by Wilhelm’s Department Store and then later served as a billing clerk for WTCM.

While working at Wilhelm’s, she cultivated many lasting friendships with her co-workers as well as customers.

She was regarded as a gifted photographer and excelled at all crafts.

Phyllis also enjoyed reading and spending time at the lake communicating with nature.

Phyllis was a wonderful and loving mother to her five loving children who survive; a son, Brian (Nancy) Bishop of Grand Rapids; and daughters, Lindsey (Robert) Geiger of Grawn, Teresa Pickard of Grawn, Robyn Bishop of Traverse City and Kelly (Phil) Baumann of Interlochen; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with her brother Glen (Ruby) Coger of Mesick and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Coger.

The Bishop family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jake Thomas officiating.

Following cremation, burial will take place at Antiock Cemetery near Mesick.
