---- — TORCH RIVER — Elizabeth (Betty) Schuler, 92, of Torch River, passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2013, at Munson Hospice House. She was born on June 22, 1921, to Thomas and Anna (Kobza) Drobena in Copemish.
Elizabeth graduated from Del-Mar Beauty School in Detroit in 1944. On June 1, 1955, she married Victor Schuler in Oberlin, Ohio. She owned and operated the Torch River Beauty Shop for many years and also assisted her husband with his excavating company. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening flowers and was a member of the Juniper Garden Club. She was also a member of the Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary in Milton Township. Betty and Vic loved to dance at the Torch Riveria and enjoyed many summers at the lake with family and friends. She will truly be missed by her friends, family, and community.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Bruce) Jacobs; grandchildren, Lindsey, Kaitlin, and Timothy Jacobs, Logan Schuler, Kevin and Kelsey Bartosek; great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Josiah Hill; nieces, Coleen (Pat) McDonald, Jan (Steve) Bartosek; brothers, George, Paul, and Jim (Emmaline) Drobena; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Schuler; and son, Jack Schuler. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Milton, and J. Richard Drobena; and sisters, Anna McCormick, Bessie Sowles, and Kate Ashcraft.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids.
