Glen R. Dodd

TRAVERSE CITY — Glen Reed Dodd, 70, died early on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, following a battle with cancer. Death came gently, sparing him fear and pain, while he was surrounded by people who loved him.

Glen was born March 28, 1940, in Olds, Alberta, Canada, to the late William Alexander and Barbara Lolita (Bryant) Dodd. He is survived his loving family; brothers Dale, Brian, Donald, Kerry and Gary, sisters Darlene Reed and Marie Edgerton, son Mark Dodd, daughter Joanna Thornton, granddaughter Fiona Thornton, and many nieces and nephews. All will miss him dearly.

Glen was a great conservationist and environmentalist, putting as small a footprint as possible on the world. He loved hiking, biking, sailing and personal fitness. He will be remembered fondly for his skill at cooking, his love of fine wines, his appreciation of the arts, and patronage of charitable causes among many other things. He was an active member of many professional and environmental organizations.

Glen worked hard, leaving the family farm to become a geophysicist. He took employment in Traverse City not long after graduation from the University of Alberta, moving his family to a new home far out on the Old Mission Peninsula, a place he cherished above all others. He later began his own company, which still bears his name.

Friends and family will join at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, to celebrate his life and mourn its untimely end, before adjourning to scatter his ashes. His son Mark will preside.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Roscoe Animal Retreat or the Humane Society.

Please sign Glen's online guestbook at The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
