TRAVERSE CITY — Jean A. Townsend, 84, formerly of L’Anse, Mich. passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City. Jean A. LeClaire was born on October 22, 1928 in Baraga, Mich. to the late Fred and Elsie LeClaire.
To call Jean a “social butterfly” is an understatement. She made friends everywhere she traveled. Jean, Jean the Dancing Machine still wrote letters to lifelong friends and could never keep up with her Christmas Card list. Learning to use FaceBook late in life kept her connected to all of her family and friends and she was so proud of that. After retirement she could be found playing bingo or at the casino where should could socialize with her friends. Jean was a proud member of The Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 8945, Covington, Mich. Her membership in that organization continued for 60 years.
Surviving to cherish her memory are four daughters and a son; Carol(Joe) Maranich, Ryan (Jim Hunt) Dobry, Patti (Skip) Barach, Chuck(Loretta) Palitti and Sharon (Tom) Maranich; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother; Ronald (Ramona) LeClaire and a sister-in-law; Mary “Musta” LeClaire.
Jean was preceded in death by a son; Bob Palitti and a brother Marvin “Diz” LeClaire.
A Funeral Service honoring Jean will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held in L’Anse, at a date to be determined. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Mich. at a later date.
Friends are welcome to visit with Jean’s family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday morning, at the funeral home.
