MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — Haroldene (Schmidt) Wagner, 97, of Madeira Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully, her daughter at her side, on July 6, 2013.
Originally from Monroe, she lived in Traverse City for many years and was married to Theron “Moose” Wares, of Traverse City, from 1939 to 1957.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Wagner; her daughter, Brenda Wares; her father, Harold Schmidt; her mother, Frances (Eggleston) Schmidt; her brothers, Joseph Schmidt, of Traverse City, and Alan Schmidt, of Chicago and Venice, Fla.
She is survived by her son, Craig Wares, of Traverse City; her daughter, Cherrie Robinson, of Madeira Beach, Fla.; her grandchildren, Scott Wares, of Littleton, Colo., Shannon Olshove, of Traverse City, Michael Libster, of Bozeman, Mont., Steven Fish, of Berkeley, Calif., and Diana Fish, of Potomac, Md.; four stepchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
A Registered Nurse, she retired at 65 as a school nurse in Oscoda.
After her husband’s death in 1982 she spent her retirement years in the St. Petersburg area of Florida. There, she was active in ballroom dancing, painting and visiting and cruising with family and friends.
Her ashes will be interred following a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City. The date will be determined later.
