TRAVERSE CITY — Robert Francis Shoobridge, age 93, entered into his heavenly home on July 3, 2013, at Bay Ridge Assisted Living in Traverse City. He was born on Nov. 15, 1919 to James and Dora (Wuerges) Shoobridge in Warren, Mich.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in many positions, including lighthouse keeper. He married Edna Lucas, his loving wife of 67 years, in Osceola County on Feb. 22, 1946.
Robert (Bob) was a mason by trade. His beautiful work was sought after and admired. Bob also enjoyed traveling, cooking, and tending to his gardens, which brought much joy to him and others.
Bob’s work ethic and strong Christian faith was an inspiration to his family and those around him. He faithfully served in many positions at Rehoboth Reformed Church in Lucas, where he was a member for 67 years.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, of Traverse City, and their children, Norma (Robert) Bogard of Fife Lake, James (Nedra) Shoobridge and Laurie (Giorgio) Vozza of Traverse City, and Audrey (Keven) Carroll of Colorado Springs, Colo., 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Helen Shoobridge of Chesterfield, Mich., Jane Lucas of Warner Robins, Ga. and Eleanor Shoobridge of Amanda, Mich., and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, nine siblings, and several in-laws.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Lucas Rehoboth Reformed Church with Rev. Peggy Byland officiating. Interment will be in the Lucas cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., on Saturday, July 6, at the Burkholder Family Funeral Home, 211 N. Pine St. McBain. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rehoboth Reformed Church building fund or Hospice of Michigan.
