CEDAR — Dennis Edward Mikses, 71, of Cedar, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, in Traverse City.
Dennis was born April 16, 1942, in Grand Rapids, the son of Edward and Ruth (White) Mikses. On Aug. 4, 1962, he married his loving wife of almost 51 years, Judith D. (Wooters) Mikses, who survives.
Dennis touched many lives; he started out with Local 639 in Traverse City and that merged with Local 85 out of Saginaw. From 1964 to 2013 he was a member of the Saginaw Local 85 Pipe Fitters Union, and at their 100-year anniversary his fellow members gave him a standing ovation for his service to the union. While representing his union Dennis got to shake the hands of five presidents.
He loved the outdoors, camping and hunting. Dennis and Judith would take trips to Arizona, traveling in their 37-foot RV. He would trail ride on his ATV into the mountains of Arizona.
Dennis loved baseball, his Detroit Tigers, and he could throw a mean knuckle ball. He was a man who enjoyed life, people and was a rock for his wife; he deeply loved his family and was a hero to them.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Judith; four children, Dennis A. (Cindy), Dale E. (Cynthia), Darrin (Jill Anderson) and Denise K. Mikses; three sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy and Patricia (Jeff) Lass; and a granddaughter, Cassondra.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration for Dennis will be held Saturday, July 20, at the Mikses’ home.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Fire Rescue Association, PO Box 74, Cedar, MI 49621.
