CENTRAL LAKE — Dr. James Frederick Arnold, M.D., 83, of Central Lake, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at his house on his beloved land with his devoted wife by his side. He was born June 4, 1930, in Owosso, to Dr. Alfred Leston Arnold Jr. and Huldah Zylpha Arnold (Smith).
On July 12, 1963, he married Eva (Stockhausen) in Munich, Germany, and she survives. Also surviving are their children, Jospeh F. (Sayuri), of San Diego, L. Katrinka, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., R. Johannes (Joyce), of Plymouth, and Rebecca T. Z., of New York City. His greatest joys were his three grandchildren, Emerson (12), Mia (13) and Kaia (11). His sister Martha Sheerin of Mullet Lake also survives.
Preceding him in death were his older brother, Les, who lost his life in World War II over Burma; and brother, John “Jack”, who died in 2010.
Dr. Arnold received his Master of Science degree in embryology from Michigan State University and his Doctor of Medicine from the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, where he also taught anatomy.
For 35 years Dr. Arnold served the Central Lake community as the sole physician. He also made house calls and cared for his patients at Meadow Brook.
Nature, especially planting trees by the thousands, gave him great satisfaction and balance. He enjoyed history and was very knowledgeable about the Civil War and WWII. Dr. Arnold was a teacher by trade and also by heart.
He loved the companionship of dogs and is missed by “Spitzi” now.
