ALDEN — Robert E. Alspaugh, age 80, of Naples, Fla., and Alden, passed away July 1 at his home at Torch Lake. He was born May 25, 1933, in New Castle, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; three children, Brenda Boyette (Richard), of Radcliff, Ky., Kim Bellomy (Ron), of Georgetown, Texas, and Mark Alspaugh, of Vine Grove, Ky. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Travis Boyette, of Radcliff, Ky., Mark Bellomy, U.S. Marine Corps, Jacob Boyette, U.S. Army, and Laura Bellomy, of Georgetown, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Braelyn Boyette, of Louisville, Ky.
Bob was a graduate of Mt. Summit High School in Indiana, Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., and Wayne State University in Detroit, where he was associated with the W. M. Chace Company.
He moved to Rocky River, Ohio, as VP of Finance for the Vogt and Conant Company in Cleveland, where he later purchased the Seither and Cherry Company, of Keokuk, Iowa, Tri-Tech Company, of Keokuk, Iowa, and Seither and Cherry Quad Cities, of Davenport, Iowa.
He had a great passion for reading and enjoyed having an extensive library both in Michigan and Florida. Also, he was well known for his love of wine and was proud of his large collection in his home wine cellar. He loved his pontoon boat on Torch Lake, and the family always gathered there for the Fourth of July celebrations.
Golfing was very important to Bob and he enjoyed being a member of the Elyria Country Club in Elyria, Ohio, the Keokuk Country Club in Keokuk, Iowa, and the Kensington Golf Club in Naples, Ohio. Bob was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and served in the U.S. Air Force in Japan from 1955 to ‘57.
A private service will be held in Michigan. A memorial service is being planned for Aug. 24 at the Torch Lake home at 2 p.m.
