Walter Brent Adams

MANDAN, N.D. — Walter Brent Adams, 63, of Mandan, N.D., passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, N.D. Walter was born Sept. 15, 1950, at Reed City, to Walter E. and Margaret (Fowler) Adams.

He was raised and educated in Traverse City, where he graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1968.

Walter served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years from 1968 to 1989 as a Radioman. He served aboard the USS John W. Thomason, USS Marvin Shields, USS Bagley, stationed at Nea Makri, Greece, London, England, San Diego, Calif., and Guam, where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1989.

He met Robin Lang while serving in Guam and on Oct. 1, 1988, they were married in Las Vegas.

Following his retirement Robin had 10 more years to serve so he worked as a DJ in a military club in Rota, Spain, managed the VFW in Guam and also Las Vegas, Nev. After Robin retired they moved to Mandan, N.D., where he worked as a security guard for a time.

Walter enjoyed classic rock music, doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, going to Happy Hour at Vicky’s to visit his friends, bus trips to Deadwood, S.D., and his pets, especially his dog, Domino. He also liked sports, particularly football when the Detroit Lions were playing.

He was a member of the VFW, Amvets, Fleet Reserve Association and Tin Can Sailors.

He is survived by his wife, Robin, of Mandan, N.D.; one son, Christopher Adams, of Mandan, N.D.; his mother, Margaret Adams, of Tustin; two sisters, Linda (Larry) Erickson, of Tustin, and Sandra Lake, of Traverse City; one brother, Gary (Edi) Adams, of Mesa, Ariz.; one grandchild, Landon Adams; mother-in-law, Deloris Lang, of Mandan, N.D.; father-in-law, Robert (Patty) Lang, of Minot, N.D.; brother-in-law, Doyle Lang, of Mandan, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his father.

A graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, N.D.
