TRAVERSE CITY — Robert “Bob” Lloyd Hamacher, 84, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, at Munson Medical Center.
Bob was born on May 11, 1930, in Grand Rapids, to the late Lloyd and Ruth (Lunstra) Hamacher. He married Sharon L. Stephenson on Sept. 11, 1954, in Traverse City.
Bob honorably served our country in the United States Coast Guard.
He retired from Michigan Bell in May of 1992 after 38 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of the FOE Eagles, Elks Lodge 323 and past president of the Elk Rapids Sportsman Club.
In his spare time he enjoyed photography and traveling with his wife. Above all, Bob enjoyed “shooting the breeze” with his friends and family. Bob also enjoyed his time spent in the woods with his son and grandsons.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving Bob are his wife of 59 years, Sharon; children, Laura (Steven) Bongard, of Holland, Mich., and Michael Hamacher, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Adam (Athena) Bongard, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jim (Jackie) Bongard, of Holland, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Aiden and Cassey; a brother, David Hamacher, of Gowen; brother and sister-in-law, Bev and Larry Stephenson; sisters-in-law, Lee Stephenson and Julie Stephenson; and many other loving family members and friends.
No services are planned at this time, per Bob’s wishes.
