BEULAH — Frank Edward Jones, of Beulah, died May 23, 2014 at the Maples Nursing Home. Frank was born and raised in Beulah, living on Narrow Gauge Road for 84 years of his life.
He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on USS Vesuvius, in the South Pacific. Frank married Lily Patridge on April 15, 1950.
Being an accomplished builder, he built and remodeled many homes in the Beulah-Frankfort area. In his retirement, he and Lily spent many of their winters in Bonita Springs, Fla.
Frank enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful gladiolas. He loved to fish and could be found fishing the lakes and streams around Beulah. He once caught a 26 ½ lb. brown trout out of Crystal Lake, which was a state record for that year. He loved being in the woods, hunting mushrooms, cutting trees, and sharing these experiences with his family. Among his favorite things were family gatherings and cook-outs. He was loved dearly, and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He was predeceased by parents, Edward and Glendora Jones; his wife, Lily; his brother, Robert; and his grandson, Ryan D. Wolfe. Survivors include his son, Michael Jones (Gail); daughter, Patricia Wolfe; sister, Annabelle Billings; grandchildren, Megan Jones Schaub (Keith), Adam Jones (Cindy), Travis Wolfe, Samantha Wolfe; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Schaub, Madelyn Schaub, and Charlotte Jones.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday June 1, 2014, at Jowett Family Funeral Home, Benzonia.
Burial will be in Benzonia Township Cemetery, with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Ryan D. Wolfe Music Scholarship, c/o Benzie Central Education Foundation.
