FRANKFORT — Esther Rockwell, 95, passed away on March 5, 2014, at the Maples. She was born in Hatfield, Mo., on Jan. 27, 1919, to Clarence and Addie (Pottorff) Moore. She married Derryl Rockwell on June 16, 1956.
From the time she was very young Esther loved to sew. It was like therapy to her. She served many customers in the Benzie County area, both year-round and summer residents. For many years she made the Cherry Hut waitress uniforms, including the name tags. She also made cheerleading and majorette uniforms for the school. She collected dolls and loved to make dresses for them. Another interest was selling and collecting Avon.
Her faith in the Lord Jesus was very important to her, as was her family.
Esther is survived by daughter-in-law, Deborah Butler; grandchildren, Teresa, Jennifer, Billie, Mark, Brian, Lara, Dawn, Scott, Rhonda, Buffy, Greg, Missy, Lisa, Chris, Tim, Nathan, Shelly and Buffy; stepdaughters, Bev Kohn, Linda (Greg) Dalman, Kathy (Terry) McArthur and Pattie Rodebush; step daughter-in-law, Bev Rockwell; special nephew, Jim Vladu; sisters, Martha Burns, Maralyn Bliesath, Marian Osborne and Margaret Heyduff; 48 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Derryl; sons, Clifford and Michael Butler; daughter-in-law, Margaret Butler; stepson, Loyde Rockwell; grandchildren, Christie and Wade Butler, Aaron Fay and Chris Kerby; brothers, Clyde and Archie Moore; sisters, Myrtle Gladding, Anna Vladu and Nora Moore; and niece, Betty Newhouse.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Jowett Family Funeral Homes in Benzonia, with the Rev. Cy Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Homestead Twp. Cemetery.
