LANSING, Mich. — Marjorie J. (Whiters) Cook (nee: Slachta) of Lansing, passed away May 2, 2014, at the age of 92.
She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Lansing, to Joseph and Clara (Mocny) Slachta. Marjorie was a graduate of Lansing Central High School, a volunteer at Sparrow Hospital, a willing Cub Scout leader, an avid golfer and devoted to her family. She was a member of Royal Neighbors, Child Study Club, sewing circle, and a life member of the Lansing Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Whiters and Robert Cook; sisters, Ruth Turpin and Clarice Smith; and brothers, Joey Slachta and Robert Slachta. Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Anthony) Scruby; three sons, Rick (Linnette) Whiters, John (Brenda) Whiters, and Thomas Whiters; stepdaughter, Susan (Michael) Roberts; stepsons, Roger (Elaine) Cook, Wesley Cook, and Richard (Phyllis) Cook; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bill (Ruth) Slachta, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until service time on Saturday.
