EMPIRE — John “Jack” David Einodshofer, 83, of Empire, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Traverse Manor in Traverse City. He was born July 1, 1930, in Altoona, Pa., the son of Louis and Genevieve Einodshofer.
Jack was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, who served his country honorably during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, Jack went to work for CenturyTel where he worked as a switchman for over 30 years.
Jack was a member of Empire United Methodist Church, the Platte Grange #1328, and the Empire Lions. In his spare time, he loved to hunt and fish.
Most of all, Jack loved to spend time with his family.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Dennis) Taghon of Honor; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Wright, Zachary Taghon, and Andrea Taghon; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Tyler; and his siblings, Helen Mock of Altoona, Pa., and Robert (Donna) Einodshofer of Erie, Pa.
Jack was preceded in death by, his wife of 54 years, Joyce Einodshofer; his son, Douglas Einodshofer; his sister, Cathryn (Sister Clarella); and his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Empire United Methodist Church, in Empire, with the Rev. Brenda Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in the Platte Township Cemetery, where military honors will take place under the auspices of Cherryland VFW Post #2780 and the United States Air Force. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Memorial contributions may be made to the Empire/Glen Arbor Fire Department or to the Empire Lions Club.
