JACKSON — Juanita (Pickett) Decker went peacefully to be with her Lord at home on Thursday, April 24, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Duane Ziegler; first husband, DuWayne Pickett; and brother, Willard Webb.
Juanita is survived by her husband, Ted Decker; sons, Scott (Lesa) Pickett and Todd (Dawn) Pickett; three grandchildren, Grant, William and Gabrielle; mother, Betty Weaver; sister, Alice (Henry) Zimmerman; brothers, William Ziegler, Harold (Lorraine) Webb and William (Chris) Palsrok; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Chesaning High School in Michigan, North Central College in Illinois for her bachelor’s degree and Michigan State University for her master’s degree.
Juanita retired from the State of Michigan after 30-plus years as a social worker, where she specialized in hard to place adoption cases.
She enjoyed reading, bowling, music, travel, holidays with the family and spending time with her three grandchildren.
She was taken from us too soon and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will take place at Wetherby Funeral Home in Jackson on Sunday, April 27, 2014, from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Jackson at 11 a.m., Monday, April 28, with the Reverend Dr. Eric Beck officiating. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery, also in Jackson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lyle Torrant Center for their playground fund.
Arrangements are by Wetherby Funeral Home, 402 Wildwood Ave., Jackson; (517) 787-7511.
